April 28, 2017 Markham— the launch of the much anticipated annual festival—TD Taste of Asia 2017 was formally announced by Chairman Dr. Ken Ng of the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham (FCCM), Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Hon. Minister Michael Chan, together with presenting sponsor TD, at the media conference held today at the Markham Civic Centre. This year’s festival will fall on the weekend of June 23rd, 24th and 25th, bringing the best of Asian cultures, experiences and food to the Ontarians and tourists once again.
“With the support of our presenting sponsor, TD Bank Group, we will be expecting some newer and greater things. In terms of celebration, we will be bringing out amazing cultural performances by our youth in Markham,” said Dr. Ken Ng, “This is the 15th year milestone of the Taste of Asia, as well as the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong handover, therefore, we will have a designated zone to feature “Party and Happy, I Love Hong Kong” (我愛香港- 開心大聚會). Within this area, year round happy events of Hong Kong will be introduced to the audience. Standing cards like the Dine and Wine event, Cheung Chau Bun Festival, peak trams and so on will be displayed for portrait photo shooting. Videos and photos about Hong Kong will be displayed. Another new attraction that will definitely draw in a crowd is a mechanical elephant that stands over 4 meters tall brought by China Focus (中盛發展). Guests will have the chance to feed the elephant simulator with bananas and take pictures with it. Additionally, our feature country is Cambodia, and our sponsor, the Kingdom of Cambodia will sponsor a Cambodian Royal Palace Pavilion section, which will feature dancers, food and other entertainment from Cambodia. Finally, to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation, Taste of Asia will feature a “Trivia Race”, as an opportunity for visiting youth to learn more about Canadian history in addition to participating in other historically related activities that will be held at the Canada 150 booths.

Hon. Minister Michael Chan makes a speech, announcing the Celebrate Ontario grant as well as mentioning that he has been an enthusiastic participant of the Taste of Asia since the beginning.
Thanking the government of Ontario for their ongoing support Dr. Ken Ng announced, “We are going to make it a mission to involve more youths this year in our programs. We will also be inviting International Michelin Chefs from Asia, Mr. Wai Hung Lai to broaden the perspective of Asian cuisine at our festival, from the most popular fusion street eats from our amazing vendors to the refined flavours from these international chefs on stage!”

TD Taste of Asia Festival 2017 means three great days of multicultural foods and performances on June 23-25, 2017. The festival will take place on Kennedy Rd. between Steeles Ave. and Clayton Drive which will be closed to traffic to host the event. Admission is FREE. Expect over 150 booths to be there to cater to your taste buds and curiosity from Friday 7pm to 11pm, Saturday 11 am to midnight and Sunday 11am to 7pm. [多倫多訊] 第十五屆道明銀行萬錦亞洲文化美食節於4月28日在萬錦市政廳正式啟動。在當天的新聞發布會上,萬錦加華聯會主席吳建忠醫生以及萬錦市市長薛家平、安省貿易廳廳長陳國治以及活主題贊助商道明銀行一起宣布了今年的活動為6月23至25日共3天,活動將帶領大家體驗最好的亞洲文化及美食。
萬錦加華聯會主席吳建忠醫生表示,在道明銀行集團的大力支持下,我們今年將會有一些更新更好的元素。作為慶祝活動的一環,我們將展示來自萬錦市年輕人出色的文化表演。吳建忠醫生續表示,今年是萬錦亞洲文化美食節的十五週年里程碑,同時也是香港回歸20週年紀念,因此大會將設置一個特別的“我愛香港-開心大聚會”區域,在這個區域,將會設置一些如美食美酒、高峰期有軌電車等佈景版供拍照留念,還會有香港圖片及錄像展示。另外一個吸睛元素是由中盛發展提供的四米高的電子大象,遊客們將有機會用香蕉餵食模擬大象並與之拍照。此外,今年的主題國家是柬埔寨,作為活動贊助的柬埔寨皇國將會贊助一個柬埔寨皇宮館,屆時將展示柬埔寨舞蹈、美食以及其他娛樂節目。今年恰逢加拿大150歲生日,萬錦亞洲文化美食節將設置加拿大150攤位,攤位上有“常識比賽”,讓參加活動的年輕人在了解亞洲文化的同時也更了解加拿大的歷史。
萬錦市長薛家平也在啟動儀式上表示,在活動贊助商道明銀行集團,Flato生活品味發展公司、柬埔寨王國政府、泰國皇家大使、韓國家樂匯超市等的大力支持以及萬錦市政府、約克區警署、萬錦消防部門的全力參與下,第十五屆萬錦亞洲文化美食節一定會取得成功,將會吸引歷屆最多的參與者和展示攤位!
安省貿易廳長陳國治在新聞發布會上宣布了慶祝安省經費,並強調自己從萬錦亞洲文化美食節創立開始就一直是活動的積極參與者和支持者。吳建忠醫生感謝了安省政府一直以來的大力支持,並表示將把引進更多年輕人參與作為今年活動的使命。吳建忠醫生還透露了今年將邀請到來自亞洲的國際米其林廚師在舞台上演示廚藝,屆時大家不但可以品嚐到美食攤位上的街頭美食,也可以欣賞到國際級大師的廚藝。
今年的道明銀行萬錦亞洲文化美食節贊助商還包括中華人民共和國駐多倫多總領事館、香港經貿處、加拿大政府以及各食物、飲料贊助商及社區合作夥伴。
第十五屆萬錦亞洲文化美食節定於6月23、24、25三天舉行,地點設在肯尼迪路Steeles和Clayton路段之間,屆時將會封路舉行,費用全免。現場有超過150個美食、文化攤位,以及不間歇的文化娛樂表演包括廚藝表演、舞蹈、中國明星表演、印度歌舞等。週五從晚上7時至11時,週六從上午11時至午夜,週日從上午11時至晚上7時。
