January 22, 2017 – Vaughan – To kick off this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations, TD-FCCV and the City of Vaughan hosted its 7th annual celebratory festival at Vaughan City Hall.

In celebration of the Year of the Rooster, the spectacular occasion featured a number of activities and displays for old and young alike to enjoy. The dazzling performances included a traditional lion dance, an eye-dotting ceremony, and a visit from the God of Fortune. The event also featured activity booths with fun paper crafts, games for visitors of all ages, and fai chun (a traditional decoration) for good luck, to name a few.

Among the crowd was the Chairman of the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham (FCCM), Dr. Ken Ng; the Mayor of Vaughan, Maurizio Bevilacqua; Regional Councillor, Michael Di Biase; Ward 4 Councillor, Sandra Yeung Racco; Regional Councillor, Mario Ferri; Regional Councillor, Gino Rosati; Councillor Marilyn Iafrate; and the Minister of Transportation, Steven del Duca. Other honorary  guests included Consul Ye Yi from the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto, and Dominic Lee from the First Chinese Seniors Association of Vaughan.

Dr. Ken Ng extended his warmest thanks to all those who supported or attended the celebration and wished everyone a happy Chinese New Year. This year’s event was organized in partnership with TD Canada Trust and the City of Vaughan as well as sponsored by The Remington Group, Splendid China Mall, The Vogue Development Group and Paradise Banquet and Convention Centre.

Federation of Chinese Canadians in Vaughan is the Vaughan Chapter of the Federation of Chinese Canadians in York Region (FCCYR), which grew from the prominent FCCM, being the organizers of many activities in York Region to help the integration of Chinese Canadians and foster intercultural friendship.
