Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham is recruiting for Directors of the Board and Executive Positions.

FCCM is seeking a new President and new board members to continue the legacy and shape the future of this accomplished organization. 

Authority/Responsibility:

The Board of Directors is the legal governing body for the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham.   As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. All Directors and executive members of the board are bound by the by-laws set out in the organization’s constitution.

Directors are elected at the Annual General meeting. Directors serve for a two-year term.

Requirements:

  • Legal Canadian over 14 years of age.
  • Commitment to the work of the organization.
  • Willingness to serve on at least one committee and actively participate.
  • Attendance in person at quarterly Board meetings, the Annual Meeting and other meetings as determined by the board.
  • A time commitment of a minimum of 8 hours per month, (includes Board preparation, meeting and committee meeting time) l, in  addition to participation in some events by FCCM including the annual Taste of Asia Festival, Chinese New Year Celebrations and Mid-Autumn Festival. 

Major Duties:

  • Governing and decision making  in the best interest of the organization based on the constitution developed by the Board.
  • Establish overall long- and short-term goals, objectives and priorities for FCCM in meeting the needs of the community.
  • Recommend policy to the Board.
  • Promote FCCM membership through community networking, etc.
  • Be informed of the programs, initiatives and events  provided by FCCM and publicly support them.
  • Actively support the organization in the raising of funds.
  • Prepare for and participate in the discussions and the deliberations of the Board.
  • To foster a positive working relationship with other Board members, and staff.
  • Demonstrate  strategic leadership

Nomination:

 The new Board will be effective from January 1, 2021. Nominations should be received by November 28, 2020 to the Nomination Committee composed of Dr. Ken Ng (Chairman FCCM), Dr. Lap Cheung Lee ( Chair of Advisory Committee) and Mayor Frank Scarpitti ( Honorary Chairman).
