February 16, 2018 MARKHAM— Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham (FCCM)  hosted “TD RESPON FCCM Chinese New Year Han Gala” successfully at Le Parc Dining & Banquet Hall on Friday February 16, 2018 from 7 pm to 10 pm.

Eight Hundred guests attended this Chinese New Year Day Gala at Le Parc Dining & Banquet Hall. Among the crowd there were many dignitaries including Hon. Ahmed Hussen,MP, (Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship), Hon. Jane Philpott, MP, (Minister of Indigenous Services ), M.P. Mary Ng, M.P. Jean Yip , M.P. Shaun Chen, M.P. Majid Jowhari, M.P. Deb Schulte, Hon. Michael Chan(Ontario Minister of International Trade) , Hon. Helena Jaczek, M.P. (Ontario Minister of Community and Social Services),  MPP Soo Wong ( Deputy Speaker, Legislative Assembly of Ontario); Rachael Rachael WONG(District Vice President, Greater Toronto Region of TD  bank), Winnie Liao (President of Respon Wealth Management Corp), Andy Taylor(Chief Administrative Officer of the City of Markham),  Deputy  Consul  General of China, Consul General Turkey, Consul General Sri Lanka, Chhat Chhour (Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Canada); Almas Jiwani, President of UN Women Canada Inc., Regional Councillor Nirmala Armstrong, Councillor Alex Chiu, Councillor Amanda Collucci, Councillor Alan Ho, Councillor Sandra Yeung Racco; Sophia Sun( president of Phoenix International Inc), YRP Chief Eric Joliffe, Eliza Li(GEneral Manager of China Southern Airlines), Jie Liu(Sales Manager of China Southern Airlines), Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham (FCCM) Chairman, Dr. Ken Ng, , Roberto Wu (Vice Chairman of FCCM)and the representatives of the sponsors.

Dr. Ken Ng, Chairman of the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham, opened up the dinner gala with a welcoming speech to wish happy new year to all the guests and thank all supporters including community leaders, sponsors and performers.

Hon. Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship expressed his happy new year wishes to all attendees and introduced the new development of the relationship between Canada and China including his rennet opening of five new Canadian visa application centres  in China and the rapid development of culture and education cooperations.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave his greeting video message to FCCM and all attendees on site. He said, today, Chinese communities in Canada and around the world mark the Lunar New Year and the start of the Year of the Dog – a symbol of honesty, hard work, and determination. 2018 is also special as we mark the Canada-China Year of Tourism. The New Year is a time to come together with friends and family and look to the year ahead with optimism and hope. It’s also a chance to celebrate the many contributions of the Chinese Canadian community. For generations, Chinese Canadians have helped make Canada Strong, inclusive, and prosperous, and that’s as true today as ever. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wished everyone joy, health, and peace in the year of the dog.

Premier Wynne’s greeting message to this lunar new year gala was presented by Dr. Helena Jaczek ( Minister of Community and Social Services), Michael Chan(Minister  of International Trade), and MPP Soo Wong. Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti along with the Councillors, Rachael Wong(District Vice President, Greater Toronto Region of TD  bank), Kaitlyn Li (the daughter of president of Respon Wealth Management Corp)  also extended their greeting and wishes for the new year of the dog to everyone attending the Chinese New Year Gala hosted by FCCM and appreciated the excellent organization for this Chinese New Year Gala and the efforts of Dr Ng and FCCM in promoting diversity.

The Chinese New Year Gala was filled with delicious cuisine and vibrant entertainment.  The attendees enjoyed the excellent performance including Chinese lion dance, musical performance and  a visit from the God of Fortune. The Gala also featured the special traditional Han Chinese new year ceremony and tea ceremony which promoted the understanding of Chinese traditional culture.  The most spectacular occasion is Mayor Frank Scarpitti’s Chinese singing which won everyone’s applause.  During the gala, the art painting by Jordan Wu and the business class ticket from China Southern Airlines were auctioned in order to support the FCCM to serve the public better in 2018. They were won by the generosity of Mario Racco ( husband of Councillor Sandra Racco) and Mrs Elaine Chan (wife of Minister Michael Chan). The most exciting time is raffle drawn by MP Jean Yip and Minister Chan at the end of the meaningful evening – a lucky guest who comes from Hainan, China won a round trip ticket to China, courtesy of China Southern Airlines.

The guests also enjoyed the complimentary photo booth with Han dynasty costumes provided and kept the happy memories on the site of dinner gala.

Dr. Ken Ng, Chairman of the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham, along with Architect Jeff Leung, Mayor Scarpitti and Andy Taylor presented the New FCCM Centre Architectural design at King Square and announced how FCCM plan to use the space.

加拿大聯邦總理賈斯汀•杜魯多送來了他為萬錦加華聯會和所有與會者的視頻致辭。他說，今天加拿大和世界各地的華人喜迎農曆新年的到來，迎接狗年的開始，一個寓意誠實、勤奮、銳意進取的年份。2018年也是特殊的一年，我們迎來了加拿大-中國旅遊年。春節是家人團聚之時，是親朋好友祝福之日，是懷著樂觀和希望攜手共進美好未來的開端。亦是加拿大慶祝華人社區傑出貢獻的時刻。回顧過去與如今，歷代華人參與塑造了加拿大今日的強盛、包容及繁榮。2018，在我們向前邁進之際，讓我們繼續秉持令我們凝聚在一起的一切，慶祝使我們更強有力的多元化。賈斯汀•杜魯多總理向大家拜年，祝願大家在新的一年中快樂、健康、平安。

省長凱斯琳•韋恩也委託安省社區及社會服務部長何潔思博士代表她帶來了農曆新年祝賀信。安省國際貿易部長陳國治，省議員黃素梅，萬錦市長薛家平及议员，加拿大道明銀行副總裁 Rachael Wong，瑞邦金融集團Kaitlyn Li等嘉賓致辭向大家表達了他們美好的農曆狗年新年祝福并感謝萬錦加華聯會和吳建忠醫生及夫人Emily為本次晚會和促進社區多元文化的努力和貢獻。

本次新春晚宴中，大家除了品嘗美味佳餚外，還欣賞了精彩的表演節目并參與了豐富多彩的娛樂活動，包括中國舞獅、音樂表演和財神發紅包等。 本次晚會呈現給大家一場傳統的中國漢服新年典禮和茶藝表演，讓大家近距離的了解體會中國傳統文化。最引人注目的是萬錦市長的中國歌曲演唱，贏得了在場所有人的陣陣掌聲。晚宴期間，現場拍賣了畫家伍川宇的畫作和中國南航的國際商務倉機票，為萬錦加華聯會在2018年更好的為公眾服務籌款。畫作和機票被慷慨的楊士渟議員的丈夫 Mario Racco先生和陳國治部長夫人陳余伊齡女士拍得。最激動的時刻是嘉賓宣佈晚會抽獎贏家-一位來自中國海南的朋友幸運地贏得了中國南方航空公司贈送的往返国际機票。

本次晚宴也提供了拍照亭，大家現場拍照留下了美好的回憶。

萬錦加華聯會主席吳建忠醫生和設計師Jeff Leung、薛家平市長、Andy Taylor 一道向大家介紹展示了萬錦加華聯會新會址的設計和未來的計劃。
