MARKHAM- June 26, 2017- The Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham celebrated the annual 15th TD Taste of Asia Festival which took place on Kennedy Rd. between Steeles Ave. and Clayton Drive. It was three great days of multicultural foods and performances on June 23, 24 and 25 2017.

There was amazing weather and the festival welcomed over 180,000 visitors and nearly 180 vendors.
In cooperation with Asianwave, the festival featured a dazzling evening concert by famous Hong Kong singer and actress, Elanne Kong 江若琳. Elanne also held a special meet and greet for her fans on Friday June 23 of the festival, where she chatted with Taste of Asia’s MC, Jesse Kalan Parker, signed autographs and took pictures with fans. This year’s theme country is the Kingdom of Cambodia, which was especially highlighted during the blessing dance performed by Khmer Buddhist Temple of Niagara Dance Group at the opening ceremony to bring good luck and prosperity.

The 15th annual Taste of Asia Festival marks a special time in Canada’s history, as the nation celebrates its 150th year. This year the festival opened for an extra day, to allow for the many new celebrations and activities to be accessible to Canadians far and wide.  Canada 150 booths were placed at the south end of the festival, where activities such as the “Trivia Race”, were held as an opportunity for visiting youth to learn more about Canadian history and the impact that the many Asian communities had on shaping the country. Canadian and Canada 150 themed prizes were given out to all participants.

As well, our vendors provided a wide variety of delicious traditional and fusion Asian foods. Stinky tofu is still a favorite among festival goers as well as fusion styled Chinese bubble waffle served with ice-cream.
